The Haliburton Highlands Outdoors Association (HHOA) is a non-profit organization.   Founded in 1992, the HHOA is a dynamic association committed to the sustainable management of natural resources.  Its goals include:  promoting the outdoor sports of hunting and fishing; working towards improving wildlife and fish habitats in co-operation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and private landowners; and educating members and the public on game and fish management and on the wise use and conservation of natural resources.

HHOA Goals specifically are:

  • To promote the outdoor sports of hunting and fishing, and to protect the outdoor interests of its members principally within the County of Haliburton.
  • To work towards improving local opportunities for hunting and fishing and towards increasing the participation rate in these sports.
  • To work towards improving wildlife and fish habitats, including non-game species, in co-operation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and with private landowners.
  • To provide education to its members and the public and promote the management, conservation and the wise use of our natural resources.
  • To work to improve the safety and ethical record of its sports, and toward improving the public image of hunters and anglers.
HHOA offers services in:
  • expertise by providing key services in fish production and supporting the vitality and health of the lakes of Haliburton and the economies related to sport fishers; through the experience and knowledge drawn from the Haliburton Lake Trout Project and their extensive experience in sport fish species; and for fish and wildlife management and management of their habitats
  • annual wildlife and habitat restoration programs by offering programs focusing on wildlife rehabilitation and habitat stewardship such as spawning and shoal restoration and boat access clean-up.  Other programs offered for wildlife management include a deer-feeding under emergency situations as viewed by the MNR as an essential service.  Deer feed is also sold directly from the visitor’s centre
  • outdoor sport experiences and events  by offering new outdoor experiences of archery at their facility through an archery range and course, and by supporting and marketing various events such as fish derbys, dinners and auctions.
  • facilities and education  by providing tours at the visitor centre, offering public use of the grounds and trails, and offering the main facility rooms to partners and local businesses for hosting meetings and lectures
