Community Fish Hatcheries
North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery is a community, volunteer based Hatchery with federal charitable status. The Hatchery is raising a locally adapted, unique genetic strain of lake trout. The Bancroft area lake trout are at the southern-most limit of their range. This unique genetic strain is of great significance.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources operates nine provincial fish culture stations which produce approximately 8 million fish for stocking in public waters each year.
Aquaculture in Ontario
The Ontario Fishery Enhancement and Aquaculture Association is an association comprised of Land Based Aquaculturists, Pond Owners, Land Owners who manage waters on their land, Cottage Associations and other Stakeholders interested in culturing and stocking fish in Ontario.
The Northern Ontario Aquaculture Association (NOAA) is a not-for-profit organization that has become the voice for Ontario’s environmentally sustainable cage culture and land-based fish farming industry.
The Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance (CAIA) is a national industry association, headquartered in Ottawa that represents the interests of Canadian aquaculture operators, feed companies and suppliers, as well as provincial finfish and shellfish aquaculture associations.
